How much is that in your currency
Rate: $1 ≈ 25,640 ₫ (Vietcombank reference rate) · updated 21:30, Oct 27 (Nha Trang time).
The rate is approximate: a money changer may differ a little.
Vietnamese dong in 10 seconds: avoid mix-ups
- Count the zeros after the first digit. 10,000 and 100,000 differ by one zero, but one is worth 10 times more.
- Be most careful with 20,000 and 500,000. Both are blue. The 500,000 note is clearly longer.
- Use two wallet pockets. Big notes (100,000 and up) in one, small notes in the other.
The most common mix-up: both blue

Even the State Bank of Vietnam admits the colours look alike. Quickest check: the 500,000 is 1.6 cm longer and sticks out past your fingers.
Same first digit, one zero apart

The right note is worth 10 times the left. 10,000 and 100,000 are also both yellow-green and mix easily in a stack of change.
When you pay
- Separate notes before paying: new polymer notes stick together, so two can pass as one.
- Put the money down, say the amount out loud and count your change on the spot.
- If you get a different note back with "you paid too little", don't pay more: it is a note-swap trick that has happened in Nha Trang.
- ATMs mostly give 500,000 notes. Break them at a supermarket or hotel before markets and taxis.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert VND to USD quickly?
Type the price on the keypad (the “000” key adds three zeros) and you see the amount in US dollars, euros, Australian dollars, won and yuan at the last saved rate. The rate is for reference: money changers use their own.
How do I avoid mixing up 20,000 and 500,000 dong?
Both notes are blue. Count the zeros: 20,000 has four, 500,000 has five. Read the number out loud before you hand over the note.
Does the converter work offline?
Yes. Open this page once while you are online: it is saved in your browser together with the latest rate. After that it works offline, and the rate refreshes when you are back online.
